10 Crucial Tips: Buying a smartphone in 2018
A lot of changes in smartphones have occurred in the last
year and to get a smartphone that will suite everything you need, you need to
know exactly what you want and need in your daily life for probably the next
1-2 years. To really get your senses activated, I’ve decided to list down the
10 things to really consider before spending a couple of hundreds of dollars on
your next smartphone. If you don’t consider these extremely important points
you can end up having an outdated phone that won’t last you very long and will
break easily!
Does it
have a headphone jack?
You might not have noticed this but a lot of companies are
now getting rid of the headphone jack just because of big names, you can thank
Apple for adding chaos to the mix! If you really want to spend more money for
Bluetooth headphones you can add a powerbank to your list too because more
power consumption will occur and not to forget, the extra steps of checking
your headphones have enough power, switching on Bluetooth and pairing which
will give you headaches as you have to do those steps for the rest of your life
just to listen to music or watch a video. Sometimes you just want to be done
with it and start listening to whatever song you want in seconds. If you have a
slight anger management issue and don’t like doing additional steps to get the
same result, get a smartphone with a headphone jack!
Even to think right now, would you really want to carry
around a “headphone jack adapter”? And what about charging your phone while
listening to music? With these new changes in 2018 you really have to pay deep
attention to the specifications and look deep into the smartphone such as
rotating it around to make sure it’s absolutely perfect to your preference. Like I mentioned above, Plugging in a
headphone jack requires no skill and physical effort at all! It’s simple as
plug and play. Even to
use Bluetooth headphones some skill is required right? So imagine giving a 12 year
old son/daughter who loves music but doesn’t notice a headphone jack!
Battery
life
On the previous 2 year models, you could get a good 5-12
hours heavy usage on your phone but in 2018 you should aim higher! With phones
like the Lenovo p2 and Doogee bl5000 you can get an extremely impressive 2 Day
battery life with heavy usage, which includes watching videos, YouTube, Music
and gaming continuously one after the other and these are phones from 2017! You
should aim a battery life from 3500-5000+ Mah which can easily get you a day
with moderate usage. Most phones like the Samsung galaxy s9+ have this type of
battery life (3500Mah) but you need to account for how big and powerful the
phone is in general.
I cannot stress enough how important battery life is! Every
single day, you take your smartphone for hours constantly receiving calls,
social media messages & updates and so as browsing the web. The worst thing you would want for
you to happen is for your battery to die while still relying on important information
in your phone.
Operating
System (OS)
Major companies (including Nokia) use Android as an operating
system mainly Oreo 8.0 and Nougat 7.0 and others use Oxygen OS which are all
good software’s indeed but there are some that are completely not worth to look
into such a MIUI which is by far the worst platform of android which is still
available. The main trade off comes in the User interface looking bad and weird
as well as the over accessibility what It basically means is, it doesn’t feel
like android!
No matter what software to choose, Make sure it’s regularly
updated to ensure that the security and features are on top of their game. On
certain circumstances, Companies barely update their operating system while
others do, so it’s extremely important to go on their website and check for
next update releases!
Type-C port
If you look at the bottom of a lot of android smartphone you
might see the micro-usb port but nowadays this is being quickly replaced by the
Type-c port which is dubbed to be the fastest port on earth! With transfer
speeds up to 5 GB/s and fast charging capabilities, you wouldn’t see why you
wouldn’t want this type of port.
What makes this port extra special apart from the sonic transfer rate and fast
charging is that every way is right. In simple terms, you can plug whichever
side and it won’t have any consequence at all! So make sure the next smartphone
you choose has a Type-c port which is far better than the traditional micro-usb
port.
Even
now, traditional micro-usb ports are quickly being replaced and in 2019 almost
all the new phones will embrace the true power of type-c. It is also been
reported by thousands of users that type-c chargers take a long time to get
spoilt.
4G+ FDD LTE
4G has been around for a long time now and to take things to a
whole new level, the introduction of 4G+ took place. What makes 4G+ 10x better
than 4G is the crazy mbs you get, with 4G+ you can get 100-300mb/s which is
just astonishing! Because of this you can now use your phone to play high end
games online and you won’t experience any type of interference whatsoever.
Corning
gorilla glass protection
The screen on every single smartphone is as precious as it
can get and to ensure that the durability factor is still considered, corning
gorilla glass emerged to the surface. What is corning gorilla glass? On
selected types of displays they’re a special type of screen displays that can
withstand drops from head height. These special displays all come in different
ranges from 1-5+ and what makes this technology very popular is how you don’t
have to keep replacing your screen after a drop as it can handle 7-10 drops.
You can usually find about this by looking at the specifications of the
smartphone or just simply googling it which will tell you everything.
Wireless
charging
Remember how you’d plug in your smartphone to charge it? You
don’t have to do this anymore thanks to wireless charging docks! It’s basically
a round flat plate or a station where you just leave your phone and it
automatically charges. Wireless charging at times can be faster than using a
cable since the charge directly goes into the battery which also consumes less
power overall. What I like about wireless charging is how there’s no wires
involved and it’s a simple step when charging your phone when going to sleep.
Fingerprint
Fingerprints aren’t all that new but it’s the speed which you
should admire! It takes less than 0.1 seconds to unlock your phone using the
fingerprint sensor whether be in the front or behind but the speed is still
considered and is remarkable. The really convincing thing about fingerprint is
how you only need your one time access code to unlock it and you can use the
fingerprint as much as you’d like. The best part of all is how easy it is to
set up and use, you should give it a go!
Scratch and
dust resistant
This feature is really taking a huge role today because most
phone users tend to face their phone downwards exposing the screen and there’s
no easy way of avoiding dust. The screen and body of the phone is specially
designed to avoid scratches and dust which makes it a great advantage to have.
Waterproof
We all know that technology and water don’t mix, or do they?
There’s some weird obsession going on the internet whereby people love brining
their smartphones on boats, Jet Skis, swimming polls etc. So phones started
being waterproofed! And because it’s just convenient, you don’t have to worry
about your phone being wrecked when it rains outside or someone plays a
poolside joke on you. By far waterproof smartphones are being enjoyed around
the world which means you can listen to music in the shower again. Since this
has been here for some time you can submerge your phone under water up to 1.5
meters for 30 minutes and you’ll still be able to use it properly!
